about

Joey Stempien's debut EP represents his maiden voyage into the world of big band jazz composition and leadership. Steering an innovative, expansive jazz collective, Stempien and producer Emile Hamwey guide a group of over twenty young musicians through his initial forays into contemporary jazz exploration.

In this musical journey, Stempien creates a diverse sonic landscape inspired by a wide range of musical experiences. The opening track, "The North Zephyr," and the titular finale, "Life out Here," seamlessly blend elements from progressive fusion, Latin, and funk genres. These tracks provide a stark contrast to the more traditional stylings found in "Liminality" and "Idyllic Life." Yet, regardless of the diverse influences at play, what unifies "Life out Here" is Stempien's visceral, harmonious yet emotionally-charged artistic voice.

The resulting music showcases Stempien's talent for blending disparate elements into a cohesive and engaging experience that defies easy categorization.
